Riverview Growers SUPERTOM

To help you grow the original SuperTom here are a few pointers you need to know about how to get the best out of your SuperTom.

Remember there is only one grafted tomato that has the name SuperTom. Whilst saying that there is about 25 different varieties within the Supertom family.

Most of these are disease resistant to the average garden or glasshouse. When you buy your SuperTom do not plant it any deeper in the soil than what it is in the pot.

Also do not put in soil that has previously been growing other family members like potatoes or dahlias.
It is always best to plant in new soil each year.

Our advice is never to use mushroom compost as mushrooms can carry deadly viruses.
If possible plant your SuperTom in a large bag if in a glasshouse or some other sheltered position.

Now for the pruning – there is no need to remove the grafting tape, it will come off on it’s own in due time.

Contrary to what some people say – do not cut one of the roots off.
Let your plant grow on the two root systems. It is normal to allow up to two laterals to grow on above the first truss of flowers, so you have 2-3 branches to fruit off. All other laterals should be carefully cut off.
